PLB FastFind ReturnLink
The McMurdo FastFind ReturnLink PLB signals the person in danger to receive the transmitted distress signal. To do this, it uses the unique functionality of the Return Link Service (RLS) generated by Galileo satellites. Blue LED signaling confirms to the user that the 406 MHz distress call and Galileo GNSS location coordinates have been received. The new Galileo GNSS satellites are part of Cospas Sarsat's MEOSAR upgrade program and now consist of 26 satellites out of a total of 30 planned.
The McMurdo FastFind ReturnLink PLB transmits and receives multiple signals simultaneously:
- Transmits 406 MHz via Cospas Sarsat to the worldwide professional emergency service
- Receives GNSS coordinates from Galileo and GPS satellites and transmits with 406MHz signal to regularly update the location
- Once the location is confirmed, receives the PLB the Galileo RLS signal and activates the blue LED
- Transmits 12 MHz homing signal to accelerate the location
